    HORSE RULES:
  1. Members riding in Western and English may ride in the same level, or only one level above or below.
  2. Member must be in Horsemanship Level II or higher to compete in bareback and trail class. Proper dress code is required for these classes. See dress code under showmanship rules.
  3. Exhibitor number must be clearly visible.
  4. No person other than the exhibitors and show officials will be allowed in the ring while the show is in progress.
  5. Adults ARE NOT to be warming up, grooming, or training horses at any time.
  6. Unsportsman like conduct, or abusive language or actions and/or abuse to any animal on the part of any 4-H exhibitor, parent, family member, or leader may result in being penalized by forfeiture of any award received and/or elimination from further competition of the 4-H member or those culpable.
  7. The judge and/or ringmaster will dismiss from the ring any entry that is unruly or not in sufficient control to ensure the safety of handler and other exhibitors.
  8. All judging in the county 4-H Horse Show is based on the member's ability to show his/her horse. The judge is encouraged to give constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement as well as point out superior performance to exhibitors whenever possible.
  9. The judge's decision in all classes shall be final.
  10. Green Horse animals can show in the respective Colt-to-Maturity age classes; i.e. a four-year old Green Horse shows with four-year old colt-to-Maturity horses regardless of the Green Horse level it is enrolled in. The criteria used at the State 4-H Horse Show will be the same as the Colt-to-Maturity project.
  11. A horse in the fifth year of Colt-to-Maturity may cross enter into Horsemanship VII if member has been assessed out of Horsemanship VI.
  12. IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL HORSE MEMBERS WEAR HELMENTS BEGINNING IN THE YEAR 2005. IF YOU ARE MOUNTED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS, YOU MUST HAVE A HELMET ON.
  13. The horse show schedule will be set up at the judge's discretion. The schedule is also subject to change.
  14. All horse members are required to interview judge on interview judging day.
  15. For further information refer to the Rules and Regulations for Chouteau County 4-H Horsemanship Projects. (Available at the Extension Office).

SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST

All members are required to wear black pants and white long sleeved shirts and tie. Good western riding boots are also required. Vests are optional.

All horse members must compete in the appropriate showmanship class.

  2. Junior Division - Under age 14 as of October 1 of the current 4-H year.
  3. Novice Division - First time showing in class regardless of age. (optional)

Rabbit check-in is Wednesday, August 13 between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. Rabbit judging will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13. Judging and showmanship will be held under the grandstands.


PET RABBIT

Does it do tricks? Is it housebroken, etc.? To be judged at interview judging on Wednesday, August 13 in the 4-H Building, the pet rabbit is considered a pocket pet. Pet rabbits must participate in showmanship at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 under the grandstands.
